Terrafugia's 'street legal' airplane has successfully taken its first flight, bringing the prospect of a flying car a big step closer. Article here.

As bad as drivers can be in Raleigh,N.C. the LAST thing they need is a flying car.

Well, I would like to have one just to get away from all these moronic drivers on our streets! I could just lift off and get away from them! I would sure hate to have to fly WITH these drivers here! Driving is bad enough!

But then all the bad driver that where on the road would be in the air too.

That would be useful! The area I live is very hilly. I live about 3km from the nearest town but it's 5.5km by road. It would be so much quicker to fly there!
Do the wings fold in or something when it's on the road? How does the size compare to a normal car? I can see a lot of logistical issues with this... not to mention it would give all those hoons on the road a chance to be hoons in the air, too! Would you have to get a pilot's licence to drive/fly one of these things?
And my final thought on this is: Now they just need to combine this with one of those cars that can go in the water, and we'll each have our own personal Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
