Thought we would share this from the Milestone Books e-newsletter. We appreciate the precepts they put forward here.
Dear Friend,
For many Americans, July 4th is a day to celebrate and commemorate the Declaration of Independence from Britain in 1776. What do you celebrate?
Declaration of Dependence
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one to dissolve the spiritual bands which have connected them with the kingdom of darkness, and to seek the kingdom which God has prepared from the foundation of the world, a humble acknowledgment of reality requires that they should declare their helplessness and great need of Him.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created with an immortal soul, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain rights, and among these are life, liberty, and happiness. But because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, these rights have been forfeited, and we all have been taken captive by the snare of the devil. That because of our utter inability to deliver ourselves and restore a right relationship by our own power, God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, brought salvation to the world. That in the fullness of time He sent His own Son to preach the gospel of the kingdom and be the propitiation for our sins, and that as many as receive Him are given power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. That like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. That now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, we have fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. That we must abide in Him, and He in us, for without Him we can do nothing. With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Nor should we be found wanting in our attentions to our brethren and fellow men, but should warn them of the vengeance to come upon those that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord. But as His ambassadors, we beseech them to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. And woe is unto us if we preach not the gospel, lest their blood be required at our hand! For God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentence. And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him that hears say, "Come!" And let him that is thirsty come. And whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.
Now unto Him that is able to keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
This glorious message has been revealed through God's written word, “the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” And yet, though Americans on average have more than two Bibles apiece, how many commemorate it only in lip-service and not life-service!
Though none of us can drink the sincere milk of the Word for another, we can make it available to our families and friends, and also to those unknown faces across the sea who have yet to hear.
