Scientific evidence found in fossilized tree stumps recently discovered by a team of scientists in Antarctica adds more confirmation that the Genesis account of the global Flood took place thousands of years ago.
The latest polar discovery of a fossilized forest in the Transantarctic Mountains was made by a secular paleoecologist from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), Erik Gulbranson, and his secular group of scientists. Gulbranson called the mix of evergreens, deciduous trees, and gingkoes the “oldest polar forest on record from the southern polar region.”
God of the Bible is the God of science
But Tim Clarey, Ph.D. gives a little more insight about the find, which heaps more evidence onto the argument supporting the Creation account.
“This discovery should be no surprise to those who take Genesis as literal history,” Clarey wrote in an article published by the Institute of Creation Research (ICR). “The Bible clearly describes a global Flood that affected all land masses – why should Antarctica be an exception?”
However, Gulbranson, a visiting assistant professor at UWM’s Department of Geosciences, claims that the trees are about 260 million years old from the close of the so-called Permian Period that secular scientists say predates the dinosaurs.
“People have known about the fossils in Antarctica since the 1910–12 Robert Falcon Scott expedition,” Gulbranson was quoted in a UWM report. “However, most of Antarctica is still unexplored. Sometimes, you might be the first person to ever climb a particular mountain.”
Avoiding giving credit to the Earth’s greatest mass-extinction to the global Flood, Gulbranson is trying to fit the pieces to promote evolutionary theory.
“This forest is a glimpse of life before the extinction, which can help us understand what caused the event,” Gulbranson continued, noting that volcanic activity – not the global Flood – buried all life on Earth.
UWM is also trying to bring the science fiction of the widely debunked theory of evolution to life by using “global warming” terminology to explain away the discovery.
“The Permian Period ended 251 million years ago in history’s greatest mass extinction, as the Earth rapidly shifted from icehouse to greenhouse conditions,” UWM’s Matthew Wamser said in the school’s report. “More than 90 percent of species on Earth disappeared, including the polar forests.”
In order to explain away the anomaly, secular scientists often revert to their unworkable theory of plate tectonics that always results in unavoidable gridlock – no matter how much they reduce the number of plates involved.
“Dinosaur and mosasaur (massive swimming reptiles) fossils occur on every continent including Antarctica,” Clarey pointed out. “These discoveries demonstrate that a much warmer global climate existed in the pre-Flood world. Warm-weather plants like Glossopteris have been found in Permian rocks on Antarctica for decades and are often used to make plate tectonic reconstructions.”
One contributor for a pro-evolution publication, Stephanie Pappas, also tried to piece in the discovery to promote the current “climate change” agenda that was heavily promoted by the Obama administration – and currently discounted by the Trump administration.
“Understanding ancient polar forests might help researchers develop predictions about how trees will react as man-made climate change warms the globe,” Pappas insisted in Life Science. “The extinction was probably driven by massive greenhouse gas emissions from volcanoes, which raised the planet’s temperatures to extreme levels and caused the oceans to acidify, scientists have found. During this event, as many of 95 percent of Earth’s species died out.”
Working evolution into her explanation, she uses “millions of years” of presumed shifting and other changes to bring life to the Darwin-inspired story.
“Antarctica wasn't always a land of ice,” Pappas added. “Millions of years ago – when the continent was still part of a huge Southern Hemisphere landmass called Gondwana – trees flourished near the South Pole. Now, newfound, intricate fossils of some of these trees are revealing how the plants thrived – and what forests might look like as they march northward in today's warming world.”
Instead of acknowledging that the Genesis Flood buried the entire planet less than 10,000 years ago, as pointed to by fossil and geologic evidence, secular scientists hold to their theory that massive volcanoes erupted and covered the Earth and its atmosphere with an iridium layer that was supposedly responsible for suffocating all life on Earth.
“The discovering scientists found the trees were so rapidly buried in volcanic ash that they contained fossilized plant cells that are virtually mummified, ‘preserved down to the cellular level,’” Clarey noted.
What about the DNA and amino acids?
But Pappas and other evolutionary scientists avoid and fail to address one blaring fact – that DNA discovered inside the bones of dinosaurs buried in Antarctica only has a shelf of less than 10,000 years. Adding to evolutionists dilemma, amino acids, which also completely deteriorate in thousands – not millions – of years were recently discovered inside the tree stumps of Antarctica’s fossilized forest.
“The plants are so well-preserved in rock that some of the amino acid building blocks that made up the trees’ proteins can still be extracted, said Gulbranson, who specializes in geochemistry techniques,” Clarey recounted. “How could proteins and original amino acids survive for millions of years? The secular science community has no viable answers to explain remarkable finds like these.”
The latest discovery near the South Pole indicates that evolutionists will continue to try and graft evolutionary explanations into every piece of evidence that actually corroborates the Flood account found in Genesis chapter 7, which provides the only viable explanation of the cataclysmic rapid burial of virtually every living organism on Earth – save Noah and those on the Ark.
“So, the fossil trees themselves tell a different and a far more recent story – one that fits the biblical account of a global Flood just thousands of years ago,” Clarey concluded. “These trees were buried rapidly during the global Flood described in Genesis. Temperate and tropical plants and animals were caught up and quickly buried in the ash, mud, and sand that engulfed them in this cataclysmic event. These fossils remind us that God’s Word is true.” link
