"Ye worship ye know not what..." John 4:22
Today was a first and a sad day. It didn't start out that way though. I was invited to speak at a little church out here in the country. We have been there before, and enjoyed the simple hymns from regular hymn books.
As we came in, there, on a screen was a DVD on pause with the image of rolling smoke on it. Hmmm? Strange I thought, I don't have a good feeling. They made morning announcements and then explain that they were going to use this 'iworship' program this morning and they were going to stay there till they fealt their hearts were ready for the preaching.
I quietly whispered to Darlene, pray, four, three, two, one, BOOM...BOOMBOOM...BOOM! Enter the electric guitars. Is this a rock concert? A curious and confused look on my children's faces... Mommy, Daddy, what have you brought us to this morning? Darlene as if on cue, gathered her little ones as a hen does her little chicks, and headed for the back door. Benjamin and I followed up the rear. I tapped the older brother who was one of the sr. members as they look for a pastor. He followed me out the back door.
"Is everything alright?" he asked in curiosity. I told him, we don't listen to rock music. It wasn't soft CCM, it was wicked rock music. He asked me if I read the words. Yes, I read the words, "All hail the power of Jesus name..." that was as far as I got. Putting that beloved hymn to that wretched music was like some Hollywood harlot singing Amazing Grace. A jewel of gold in a swineds snout!
The brother told us, the first time he heard this music, it bothered him too, but now he just listens to the words. This is a lie of the devil. The verse that came to our mind as we drove away," Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;" I Tim. 4:1,2
The brother told us that he had some youth from MTSU there today and this is what they like, this is what they'll sing. Hog wash. I was a devoted metal head and drug culture convert, and Darlene and I cut out teeth on...you guessed it, the old hymns of the faith. Just as I am, Power in the Blood, etc. No one told us we needed some perverted rubbish, we being new converts just started singing a new song.
"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies." Psalm 40:3,4
What we have today is a generation of church goers that have, "turned aside to lies," Reverend Shortchange hath sold them a bill of goods. Some of them are not even saved, because he has also sold them a salvation without repentance. They are lost as a goose in a hail storm, on their way to a firey hell, and don't even know it. You have to spoon feed them CCM, Southern Gospel, and mushy praise music, to whet their carnal pallets and get them to church.
The hour is late, my brethren, the hour is late.
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
I can't forget the screen with the rolling smoke...billows of smoke ascending from the pit...called, 'iworship!' Indeed!
