I am reading a new book that our church gave each family during Christmas called, "Seeing and Savoring JESUS CHRIST" by John Piper. I came across a section of the book on page 15 that made me sit back and reflect...I thought I would share it with you all.......
"We are all starved for the glory of God, not self. No one goes to the Grand Canyon to increase self-esteem. Why do we go? Becasue there is greater healing for the soul in beholding splendor than there is in beholding self. Indeed, what could be more ludicrous in a vast and glorious universe like this than a human being, on the speck called earth, standing in front of a mirror trying to find significance in his own self-image? It is a great sadness that this is the gospel of the mordern world."
This is not the christian gospel..."The Christian Gospel is about "the glory of Christ, " not about me. And when it is---in some measure---about me, it is not about my being made much of by God, but about God mercifully enabling me to enjoy making much of him forever."
Something to ponder...Blessings Sis Debbie

Sister Debbie, please be careful when reading John Piper. Piper is consider a hyper-calvinist. His beliefs have a tendency to invade his writings as do the beliefs of most authors. He is sort of like A W Pink. If you keep in mind that he is a calvinist as you read him you ought to be safe. If there is anything in his writings that tweak your "antenna" check it against the Bible.
In Christ, George

Hi Brother George...Thank you for cautioning me...I am not sure if I am that sure of my self when studying scripture that I would notice if my anteena was tweaked or not ;D...I did notice that he wrote this particular book in loving memory of "C.S. Lewis" I found that a little odd...I thought "C.S. Lewis" was fascinated with the occult, correct me if I am wrong...Thanks again...Hope you are feeling better...Love Sis Debbie
