I have seen more articles about violence and deadly violence in the public school, recently, than I think I've ever seen. I know people who teach public school, and I commend them, but WOW, what a dangerous field these days. It ranks up there with policemen these days!

My mom is a public school teacher in TX. They have regular "lock-down" drills, in which they lock all the doors and cover classroom windows in case of an armed intruder. They never know if it's a drill or the real thing until afterwards.

The public schools are getting worst every year. My daughter had been in the public schools until this year (4th grade) and we pulled her and her brother out after a month. She was being bullied for the first time ever and the quality of education was so low, she went from being a middle of the road kid in a different district to top of the class here. As for my son, he was in Kindergarten with a kid who has spent about half the year suspended...and he seemed to target my son when there. The final straw was when my son was sent to the counselor's office with this other kid after he poked my son in the backside in the restroom. The counselor had a conversation about appropriate and inappropriate touching with him, and no one bothered to let us know. My son told us about it!
I used to think it was a good thing for Christians to be in the public schools as salt and light...but not anymore. It is much to dangerous in most places.

Brother Bob, I have heard others say this same thing about placing Christian children in public schools. However there are a lot of things in the Bible which indicate that should not be. I am very pleased you changed your mind about this.
I do not understand how any Christian parent can place their child in a public school. The things taught in the classroom are quite often completely contrary to the Bible and the things taught outside the classroom by the other students are often an abomination.

I would like to respond on this. First off let me say I am not in favor of our children being in public school. In our case our 7 yr old Hannah had a stroke before birth causing her to lose the left side of her brain, there by having had learning disablities. And my wife had a stoke 5 yrs ago leaving her with certain problems too , making very very hard to home school. The christian schools we have here are way out of our price range.
The help Hannah has gotten to this date has been very good. She is becomming a very good reader{ we have no TV which has been a big help} she is doing good in math and other things, not quite up to 1st grade level , but getting closer all the time.I give credit and praise the Lord for it. So the question is how could we teach her any better right now? I fear there will come the day when we may have to pull her out of school. Because of things taught there. At this time we are only looking to 8th grade anyhow. Then she can be in the school of home under Mom learning all the things that are need to care for a home and family. But we will let the Lord lead on that to as the time comes.
I also believe that today a lot of christian schools are not far behind the public ones.

I was doing some installs (two-way radios) into some public school buses and there was a three ring binder with discipline reports in it. I took the liberty to leaf through, and the reports were, well let's just say ! It is not a case of sending in our children as missionaries like the Three Hebrew Boys, but hiding baby Moses! Hang in there, brethren, I think were heading into the back stretch! AND JESUS WINS!!!!

Yes Brother Randy there are always exceptions and in your case very valid ones indeed. You are also quite correct about some of our Chrustian schools. I believe it vitally important to look at the Church that is the head of that school. What are the standards of the Church itself? If homeschooling is not an option I believe anywhere the children will be exposed to Truth and the Word is better than the public school system. My word, I have yet to hear of a Christian school in which the local police have to patrol the halls. Perhaps there are some but I know in my area the police departments even has special officers that work only at that particular school. If I am not incorrect our tax dollars pay for those officers.
It is a sad state indeed and perhaps we are all looking for a utopia. I don't know all the answers nor do I believe does anyone. All I can say of a certainty is that when we all get to heaven things shall be so much different!
In Christ, George

I'm sixty yrs. old and went to school back when there was a bit more sanity in the public schools, but it was well on its way to becoming a liberal haven even then. We did memorize a psalm and had prayers at mealtimes, and it wasn't against the law to teach the Bible as literature (we didn't get a whole lot even at that). Mostly, I can say that I learned reading, writing and arithmetic and a few of the basics, but I also can say that I didn't learn much of anything that gave me the skills I needed to be a keeper at home. Even then, they were encouraging me to become a lawyer or a juvenile judge according to my ability tests -and that was about in the 4th grade they were pushing careers at us. Well, I didn't make it into a career. I did work some, but mostly stayed at home with my children and even after one passed away and another started to school. I was there when he came in from school and had nourishing meals ready for my family, kept the house, did the washing and ironing - and that was a pretty good job. What little I did learn in home ec. may have helped a little bit, but mostly I had to learn in the school of hard knocks. - If I had it to do over, I would be caught at least trying to homeschool our little son. Homeschooling was unheard of in the mainstream back then. That's just my observation about the lack of realistic training today in order for kids to have a real life. Wanda

I really dis-like public school and I know oh so well that private Christian schools are not far behind. Having said that, for some of us these types of schools is all we have. I personally have been looking at public and private schools for my young daughter since I have to work to support us. My mom is a retired school teacher and said she would help me if I wanted to home-school but she thinks she needs the socialization and would do better in school I feel she might be saying this to persuade me to send her to school to take the burden off of her...I am in much prayer over this, it makes me sick to even think about sending her to the cess pool!! Please be thinking of me over this discision....Thanks Love Sis Debbie

Dear Sis Debbie, It's good that you see the problems with the public school system, and if your mother saw the things during her career that my mother is seeing as a PS teacher, she will realize that it is no place for Christian children. Is your mom a Christian, so that she is on the same page with you? Perhaps you could help her to understand the desires and goals you have for your children. Another thing is that she may have doubts about the adequacy of homeschool materials. It may help to allow her to see samples or websites, whatever you use in your search for the right curriculum. We use Landmark's Freedom Baptist curriculum, and I know Sis Darlene could recommend some, too. Blessings to you and your family!

Yes, My mother is a Christian...but she told me yesterday that she would prefer not to homeschool my youngest daughter so I am looking into the church school, it is not a public Christian school like most, they don't have open enrollment, it is only for church families and believers of the same faith...they use ABEKA curriculum, if I can't send her there, I have decided I will just homeschool her when I am not working...I will not send her to the "PUBLIC SCHOOL" please pray that this will all work out....Thanks All for HIS glory Love Sis Debbie

Hello Debbie,
I think a closed-enrollment Christian school that is a ministry of your own church is the next best thing to homeschooling. May the Lord give you wisdom as you make this important decision!

We have our kids in a Christian school based out of a church that is using the Bob Jones curriculum and right now, couldn't be happier. In fact, my wife is going to be the new kindergarten teacher...we are that happy with the situation.
