Dear Brothers and Sisters... We must all remember our dear Brother Ben and Sister Darlene and their precious family in our prayers tonight... Their oldest son Benjamin is in the hospital in Intensive care on a breathing tube. I am not complete on the details, but please pray for this wonderful family. If I hear anymore I will post, or hopefully Brother Ben will be able to let us know how things are going, but I am sure him and Darlene have their hands and hearts full at this time. Blessings Sister Debbie

Oh my word! I have no idea how I missed this thread. I have been praying for young Benjamin for quite a while now for spiritual restoration. Now I see it goes far beyond that. Of course my prayers are with both young Benjamin and the rest of the family. The family needs peace comfort and strength only The Lord can give. Let us all pray without ceasing for this distressing event.
In Christ, George

Dearest Brethren, I'm sorry I have not posted before now, but things have been a whirlwind. Benjamin had been having problems with a tooth that cracked because of a wisdom tooth that grew in on that side (the other side is cracked also for the same reason.) He had tooth pain so bad it was giving him a headache all day Tuesday. He couldn't sleep all night because of the excruciating pain. When he got up Wednesday morning he knew he needed to go to a dentist we know of for help. The dentist prescribed an antibiotic and a pain killer. He filled his prescription on the way home, took some medicine, and came home to take a nap. When he got home, his face was twice as swollen as when he left in the morning. After his nap, his face was four times more swollen and his mouth was swelling to the point where he couldn't speak and was having a hard time swallowing. They called the dentist and he recommended they call an oral surgeon. When they called the OS, he told them his problem was too bad and to take him to the emergency room. They checked him out and a surgeon looked at him and they figured they would have to remove the tooth and drain the infection. He was checked into a room for the night. In the morning he was having a hard time breathing because of the swelling. His surgery was originally scheduled for 2 PM, but the anesthesiologist looked at him around 9 AM and said they were going to have to get him right in. They got him into the operating holding room and put a breathing tube down his nose (because of the swelling in his mouth, and that was the area they would be operating on and a tube would be in the way.) They made us leave when they put it in. They called my cell phone around 12 noon and told us he was going in for surgery. Surgery lasted about an hour. They removed the tooth, made some incisions to drain the infection, and left some areas for the infection to continue to drain. They packed his mouth with gauze and brought him to ICU. It was so hard to see him in such a state, he is such a stout and healthy young man. We were very concerned because the breathing machine malfunctioned several times and he was not getting air down the straw sized tube in his nose. He looked at us panicked and we called the ICU nurses. One came in looked at the machine and said, "He is getting enough air, everything is o.k.," however, he was looking at us with his eyes wide open pointing at the tube. Finally they called the respiratory specialist in and low and behold, there was a problem! She fixed it and we were thankful. Later on the same thing happened after shift change and the new nurses said the same thing. He took a pad and quickly wrote, 'I am not getting air!" The nurse took the pad from him and started reading what he wrote hours earlier to the post surgical nurses, 'Hi I'm Ben, when do I get a room, and can my friends come to see me?' We all at one time said, "Not that, the other thing he wrote at the bottom!" How frustrating! It quit working three times on the first shift and two on the second. Anyways, they finally called another respiratory specialist, but by that time the surgeon came in to check on him and she and the anesthesiologist agreed to take out the tube. It was kind of intense but he was greatly relieved. Darlene was going to spend the night (again,) to make sure they didn't kill her firstborn child with that no account machine. Oh, by the way, they said he was breathing around the machine and causing it to malfunction because he was needing more than it could supply. He made rapid progress after they got him on an oxygen mask. We went home and poor Darlene slept like a rock. The next morning the surgeon looked at him again and had him discharged. We got home early Friday afternoon. The swelling has continued to go down and he is doing great. His boss (at the Tennessee Walking Horse barn,) called and called, he loved Benjamin like a little brother, he and his wife were beside themselves, he is such an asset to the training facility. WE stopped at the horse barn on the way home and his boss paid him an entire week salary even though he only worked Monday and Tuesday. A sad addition to this story is that Darlene started spotting Thursday afternoon after the surgery. She talked to her midwife about it and we prayed and committed it to the Lord. Friday night, little baby Smith went to be with Jesus, she lost the baby at the house. We were all so looking forward to another little blessing from the Lord. Darlene has felt poorly all day, please keep her in your prayers also. She is such a dear and was there for her boy without flinching. She has maintained such a good spirit through it all, but deeply regrets that she is not going to have another little one now. Thank you for remembering her too. Bro. Ben
