Hello all...I was studying and gleaned this from a book I was reading, thought I would share...
A "New" Idolatry:
"This sin is not one that is limited to Old Testament times. In fact, I believe we see the second commandment violated in many ways today. As God's people, it is our job to safeguard the true knowledge of Him; but in many ways we have let down our guard and allowed wrong views of God to be hung in the corridors of our minds. Instead of protecting our hearts and minds, we have allowed every influence imaginable to alter our picture of God, resulting in distorted, dishonoring images of Him. This has had a devastating effect on the church today.
Should we be surprised that Scripture admonishes us to guard our hearts and minds? I think not. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, warned us in Proverbs 4:23 to diligently guard our hearts and minds because in doing so we guard our very lives. From them our entire life flows. And the key to keeping our minds right is having the right knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Turn on most modern-day Christian television broadcasts or listen to much of contemporary Christian music, and you will see the the theological safeguards of the picture of the true character of God have been discarded. One mindless chorus goes so far as to celebrate Jesus as "the salt on my Frito, " a staggering trivialization of the Lord Jesus Christ.
With godly passion, we must recognize that the full force of these first two commandments is still in effect today and must determine to direct our lives to the worship of the one true God.
