I just had to share what God showed me yesterday when I was trying to make a dress for my little girl.
You see, it has been a looooong time since I made anything and so I prayed before I started and asked God to help me and give me wisdom about how to do this. So, off I went. Well, everything just went together so smoothly that I was thanking God, but then I saw what had happened. I was very proud of how the facing had gone together, it laid down so nicely, but then I saw what had happened. I had forgotten to put on the back neck facing! Then the Lord told me this, you see, it looks so pretty and perfect on the outside, but inside it is not right. This is the way of the world. The emphasis is on looking good on the outside, but on the inside, it's just not right.
God is so good to me and I thank Him for teaching me this lesson and showing me again how He has called us to simplicity and focusing on Him and not on how we look to the world.

How encouraging sister!
Thank you for posting this. Sewing does not come easy to me either.
Another aspect to think about, Some people get all caught up in ''going Plain'' they are infatuated with ''the Look'', and they really get into the whole plain thing, the dress, the life style, etc. Outwardly they look pretty conservative and they look like they are close to God and Gods way, but inwardly they are empty, in great spiritual need, not real with themselves or others...they are missing the point. I have met these people, they have no joy, some act excited on the outside but when you talk to them there is no spiritual zeal, oh sometimes they through out spiritual phrases (it goes with the look) , but you do not sense the Spirit of God working in them. Others look the part, but have no joy, no zeal, no outward happiness, or excitement for life at all, these are truly sad people, just dressing the part.
Then there are those who are regular christians doing the popular, excepted church thing, and God reaches down and exposes to them their great need, tells them He wants them to be free of this worlds entanglements and enticements, He tell them to come on up to higher ground, to learn of Him, to take up their cross and follow after Him, to forsake all that is near and dear to them...self. He begins to take the skins off their eyes to show them His perfect will. Th sister starts yielding to the Spirits wooing, she does not really want to give up familiar thing... make up, jewelery , pretty clothes, etc, worldly entertainment, worldly lusts. As they leave off these things and start denying their flesh, and start trying to be modest, chaste, shamefaced, keepers at home, godly wives, mothers, etc... they start studying and seeking for How to live out these principles in their life. They come across things that will help them simplify their lives and the find themselves living the Plain and Simple lifestyle. They find thyself covering, dressing modest etc, not because they necessarily wanted to in the first place it is just where God has brought them, and how He as led them. Inside they are working on selfish ways, humbling themselves before the Lord learning of Him at His feet, these are they that look right on the outside, and have the Spirit of God working on the inside, these are truly beautiful sisters.
Some may start out being infatuated with plain things, and the Lord still do a work in their heart. This is good when this happens too. The final results the Lord is looking for is changed heart resulting in a changed life.
Sister Debbie S. you are a blessing and encouragement to me to see the Lord doing a work in your life, He's still working on me.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~

Sister Darlene, that is an excellent and very accurate assessment. One of the ways I have discovered to determine a person's true relationship with the Lord is to take a glance into their shopping cart when I run into them in the market. You may or not be surprised at the number of good, church-going Christians (some of whom hold rather important positions in the Church) can be found, even after Church services on Sunday, with a big old bottle of wine in their shopping cart. I have even seen some with bottles of hard liquor. A couple of times I have mentioned this to them and the answer I got was that they used it in cooking. Okay...I have not seen too many recipes that call for a while bottle of Vodka so the question remains as to what happens to the rest of it?
Recently I have been involved in an exchange with a man who claims Christ and the Cross and yet staunchly defends as truth the idea that Jesus actually served alcoholic wine at the Last Supper and therefore it is okay and even proper for a Christian to use alcohol. I have tried to explain the truth to him yet he just will not listen. It is apparent he has either been taught incorrectly or attends a liberal Church or both.
There are so many people these days who want their testimony to show them as being Christian and also want to live as close to hell as they possibly can without actually stepping into it. Of course some of them may be surprised. It is very sad when a person sets out to live the plain life and is still involved in the things of the world. I know it often takes time to purge our lives of things that are not good for us yet I know a number of "good' fundamental Baptists who still engage the things of the world.
Bear in mind I am not trying to say that I am a perfect man or anything even close to it. The Lord only made One Perfect Man it is not I by any means.
In Christ, George

Brother George Well said it never fails to amaze me how Christians defend alcohol. I remember an expression that was used years ago called "the devil's brew", that's what it is. The only use alcohol has is to sterilize instruments for operations, that's it, disinfectant down the drains.
My parents were drunks, so was I ; I took my first drink at the age of 6, Drink nearly destroyed me I got saved in a Church that taught it was okay to drink in moderation, no-one needed to show me to pour my vodka down the sink.
God bless Sister Gail
