I was wondering if Head Covering Baptists have any thoughts about the Bible's "Dietary Laws"? Do you think this is something for us today and still applies? Or do you believe that these laws were done away with?
And do you believe that wherever the Moral Laws of God touch on subjects that they should still apply and be kept? Or do you believe the whole law was done away with? Thanks, Valli

I can tell this if you find it of any use, I heard a sermon by Lester Roloff who make reference to Jesus fulfilling the ceremonial laws but the moral and dietary laws should still be kept. I may have misunderstood him but if you read his book Food, Fasting, and Faith (you can actually read it online for free) it will give some good insight as to why we should keep the dietary laws, even though it is not necessary for our salvation.
My husband and I do not eat pork or shellfish, or catfish. many people will say we are legalists but we are not. God put those laws in there for a reason and I will tell you that for a short time my DH and I ate like we ought and it did an amazing difference to our health (I am considering going back to it) I didn't even have a headache after the caffeine ones were gone. I do not think it is necessary for salvation, but it is necessary for health and the Lord will use the sick and the healthy, but I believe he would rather us be healthy. It reminds me of someone asking prayers for their health but they don't want to quit smoking. Something I did just learn from Sister Darlene on a post is about cod liver oil and it has helped me. There is something useful about eating fish.
on the other hand the Jews do believe they are to keep the diet for religious purposes.

God made food for people, and food for animals. People should not eat animal food.
God made some animals clean, which he allows for human consumption, and some animals are scavengers to keep the earth clean, or are prey for other animals.
I believe He set dietary laws for the good of humankind, and it is wise to follow them, even though the law has been fulfilled. If we eat unclean things, we contaminate our bodies, and that is just common sense.

Dear sister Valli,
There are many different types of baptist here on this site, some follow the dietary laws others do not.
Bro Ben and I use to eat strictly by the dietary laws ( it was hard having a large family, always traveling to other churches and eating at other peoples table while Ben preached at other churches.)
When we are at home we choose to not eat pork often (rarely), we prefer chicken beef and turkey, we eat fish with scales most of the time (on occasion we eat catfish...probably farm raised) we hardly ever eat sea food. We also choose to not eat processed food, though at times we eat that when it's offered, we try and stay away from MSG, city water(unfiltered,) soft drinks (though we do drink them on occasion,) we eat hole grain breads, but haven't changed our pasta yet ( we do not eat alot of pasta...once or twice a week ) we eat white and brown rice (brown is better for you). There are many safe guards we take to eat healthy. We are pretty healthy people except for Ben's arthritis and my bad back.
I think people should take control of their diet and eating habits. Following the dietary laws sounds pretty healthy, but we must also eat healthy in other areas too.
Balance and Moderation is the key!
If you have to eat something you'd rather not...1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1Ti 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. Luk 10:8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: I thought I would post what brother Ben and I do.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~
