Does God Talk To You?
“And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.” Acts 9:6
I have a question for you brethren. Does the Lord speak to you? I know that may sound a little odd, but I’m serious. The reason I ask is I hear people from both sides of the spectrum. Some say, “No, God does not speak directly to me, nor do I think he speaks to anyone.” Then on the other side some say, “Oh yes, God speaks to me often.” So what do I mean? In order to clarify, let me say what I’m NOT saying. I am not asking if the Lord speaks to you in an audible human voice, or comes to you at the foot of your bed. I am not trying to be sensationalistic or unscriptural. However, people often say, God only spoke to people in the Bible times, and yet I often sense that the Lord, by His Spirit is directly communicating with me IN my (human) spirit. I don’t know how to explain this other than it is the Lord. I am careful to make sure that this thought, inclination, or impression that I have received bears true with the scriptures, but I do believe it is of the Lord. I recall in my Bible college days receiving teaching that was something like this: “God only dealt directly with man after the Cross in the Book of Acts, but no longer does this because man now has the complete canon of scripture.” That sounded very orthodox, and for all intents and purposes I believe that, however, in my Christian experience I as well as others I know, who have their feet on the ground doctrinally and mentally, have received direction from the Lord as they quietly meditated.
Again, I am not trying to encourage people to seek after some experience or believe something that does not bear true with the scripture, but I want to know, does God talk to you?

Does The Lord, GOD speak to me directly? That I am not certain of. I am certain that the Holy Spirit of God speaks to me continuously. Each time I pray I get answers. They are answers that come to me in the human, English language.
It is when I listen to the voices in my head rather than the Holy Spirit that I get into trouble.

There are the things about the voices in my head. Paying attention to the very first voice I hear is paying attention to he Holy Spirit of God in most cases. I say in most cases because when I am in the flesh the first voice I hear is of the oppressor and not God.
How do I know whether it is the Holy Spirit of God speaking to me? By trying the voice if it is of God. If it confesses Jesus Christ it is of God. If not, it is of the enemy.
The false prophets I believe are the voices of the fallen angels. There are many thousands if not millions of them. They find my weaknesses and exploit them. The voices in my head can create chaos in an otherwise peaceful setting. That is another area of test of the spirit I hear. Does it generate the Peace of God or does it generate chaos and unseemly things?

Dear Brother Ben,
This was a great message. It is a wonderful thing to pray (talk to God) and actually get answers to prayer. When the Lord speakes to your heart you know it. Happenings are nice ( when you pray and see the physical provision ) but what a peace it brings to the soul to hear the Holy Spirits still small voice. I talk to the Lord all alone in bed every morning before I get up. The Lord reveals wonderful truths to me. It is exciting to know the Lord has met with you. Some mornings He says not a word to me, but I pour out my heart before Him and He comforts and assures me and brings me peace sweet peace.Psa 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. The Lord walks with me too. I can pray any time throughout my busy day and I know He is there, He does not always speak to my heart in definite ways throughout the day, but He does in small ways. If I'm in trouble I go to the Word of God and He is always faithful to speak to me there.1 Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. The Lord is my strength, He is my everything, ~ sister Darlene ~If the Lord does not speak to your heart and guide your life, comfort your soul, and answer your prayers, I would first say check to make sure you truly are born again. Make your calling and election sure. If you are born again, but never hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, I would suggest you examine your heart, are you right with God, Are you walking in light? Does your life please the Lord? Do you have compromises in your life? Things that are questionable or out right displeasing to God? Examine thyself according to scripture before the Lord. After all one day you will stand before the Lord and your life will be judged by the Word. The Lord is real and he does speak to His dear children. If you are a child of God you are no different, God can speak to you too. He ( God) is no respecter of persons. Walk close to God live a pure life without compromise. Leave this world and it's ways behind. You are a child of the King of Kings you are different, called for His purpose to be used of God in this dark world, to be salt and light. Is your God just a club ( church) Mascot? The one you call when needed? The one you fit into your lifestyle, your desires, your like and dislikes? You know the clay god the one you mold to fit your life.
Or is He the Creator of all things including you, and the Mighty God the one who Rules Heaven and earth? The one who is all God, but put on flesh to walk among man.He is a loving God one who desires a personal, intimate relationship with you. Believe it and seek the Lord. Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you.
If you think you have heard from the Lord and are not sure, line it up with the scripture. Doe it contradict scripture or line up with it? God will never tell you to go against scripture. The Lord is Holy, therefore be ye Holy.

Sister Darlene, there is a whole lot of wisdom in those three little words. Actually two of them carry the weight. We see the same thing in Psalm 46a.
When one determines to dig a little deeper into the Bible to determine what it is really saying to us the answer to those two little words can be found.
Be still means to become peaceful and contemplative. Become quiet and meditate on His grandness and greatness. Be still and realize all the wonderful things He has done for us. Be still and know that God knows every last little thing we have ever done and every last little thought that pops into our heads and yet He stil loves us.
I sincerely believe that Jesus loves us so much he would do it all again. He would face Calvary's cross and go to Golgatha all over again for us.
Now if that does not cause one to become peaceful and contemplative I don't know what will. Quite frankly it brings tears to my eyes. After all, I am the wretch they wrote the song about.
In Christ, George
