I found this site while searching for conservative churches. How do I go about finding one in my area? Are most everyone here Anabaptist (Mennonite, Amish etc.) or is there such a thing as conservative Baptist who practice what the Bible says regarding modesty? Have a good day in the Lord, Doug

Welcome, Bro. Doug, so nice to have you here. I can't answer for everyone here, but I'll try to give a general answer. I'll answer the last question first.
To the best of my knowledge, those here are generally baptists of varying types, i.e., indpendent and Southern, we have some Weslean holiness, some non-denom., and a few others. What we have in common is the clear testimony of scritpure that was practiced by some of the anabaptist Christians, and those that went before them.
Those who have a heart (importantly here,) toward the Lord, will in time, find the scriptures teach a simple (plain,) chaste, modest, humble, pure, loving pursuit of Christ. This leads families to fall out of favor with big, popular mainline churches, ladies start wearing modest clothing, and covering their heads, and men try to become the patriarchs of which the scriptures teach.
This site was started when we saw the Lord moving amongst the Baptist people, and have since then found this is happening in all groups. It is not the group, it is the Lord calling out a holy remnant prior to his coming. Just the other night Darlene and I were in the Wal-Mart (shopping center,) in our town and we saw a (relatively) modest sister with a covering on. We said to each other, "I wonder who that is!" We met her and as it turns out, she is, to our shock, Church of Christ. Like the Baptist in our area, most Church of Christ folks are very liberal. She didn't have that hardened "us and them" air about her. She even said, "We need to learn how to love each other." We were blessed. She is the only one in her church that covers. As I said, it is not "groups," it is the Lord calling out a beautiful bride.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
We're getting ready for a wedding! Come along!
Sadly, as I said, there is no group. All you can do is pray and search and eventually you will find a small church here, a house church there, a few believers meeting together over there. It's a remnant bride being called out of all groups. Even though I appreciate the testimony and doctrines of our Baptist forefathers, it is not "just" in the Baptists.
So, in a word, like the rest of us, besides the Lord, you're on your own. So, stay in touch and pray and be encouraged and share with us as you walk the Pilgrims Pathway on the way to the Kingdom of our coming Lord.
Hbr 11:8 ¶ By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Hbr 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as [in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: Hbr 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker [is] God.
Hbr 11:13 ¶ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of [them], and embraced [them], and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hbr 11:16 But now they desire a better [country], that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Hello Doug in central Pennsylvania! Welcome to the forum, of which I'm a new member myself.
My wife and I were independent Baptist for many years. Our walk with the Lord and searching of the scriptures has brought us to a place where we have no desire to be of any particular group. Some may consider us nondenominational. We are content with simply being Christians, believers, disciples and followers of Christ.
Years ago if I would have heard someone say what I just wrote, I would have considered them wishy washy, lukewarm or apostate. My how time changes things.
Anyway, I will pray for you that the Lord leads you to a good group of brethren with whom you can fellowship. We don't have a church ourselves at the moment, so I know what it's like.
Once again, welcome.
John

Doug, Welcome to the group here, I trust you will be blessed and encouraged with like mined believers here.
To the best of my knowledge I am the only active converative Mennonite in this group. Although being a Christian and living for the Lord comes first.
We have to drive 75 miles round trip on Sundays to fellowship. Although that is not real far it is enough for us to have to drive. We have on brother and his wife in our church, Mennonite , that drives 2 hours one way to fellowship.
Again welcome.

]Thanks everyone for your encouragement! How about Romans 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. How I wish I had my life until June 2008 to live all over again! Sin always leads to despair and death. I just praise God that Jesus paid all my sin. I still can't believe I'm born again....except the fact that I know I am.
I love feasting on His Word and try to live it out. Brother Doug

Doug, My family lives in Lancaster County, but we're not far from Dauphin and Lebanon Counties. I'm not aware of a Covered Baptist assembly in the area, but I certainly would like to be a part of one. Or perhaps start one... Wishing you the best in your journey. - Jeff K., Elizabethtown, PA

There is a fellowship finder service through Charity Fellowship I believe.
Praying for you to find a church home there.

Welcome from Australia!
Well, to add to the answer you already have for you question, there are no Amish/Mennonite/Anabaptist churches in South Australia, so obviously I'm not part of one of those groups. I was raised for 11 years in a reasonably conservative non-denominational Christian church (one of four in Australia, started by first settlers who had been worshipping together on the boats coming out, from all denominations - four of the oldest churches in SA!) where most of the women wore skirts most of the time, but headcovering was unheard-of (except for one old lady that everyone thought a little odd, who wore a hat every Sunday). My family now goes to a Baptist church (I don't know how Baptist churches in Australia compare with the various baptist churches in America) but I consider myself non-denominational.
I don't understand denominations - we're all Christians, right? Organising ourselves into neat little superficial groups just stands to separate us from each other, from being one Church. It also gives people reasons to argue with each other and not focus on other more important things, like for example, the Great Commission, and loving one another.
That said, I suppose what I believe is closest to Baptist - the church I was raised in has been described as 'baptist in all but name'. However, I am very conservative, and I try to follow the Bible to the letter. I've always felt led to wear modest clothing - loose clothes, always with sleeves, long skirts - even before I quite understand that that was what the Bible was telling me to do! In reading my Bible about 2 1/2 years ago, I came across the passage which instructs women to cover their heads and began to do so. I'm the only one in my family who dresses this way and/or wears a covering; although my father agrees that women ought to, he says he isn't going to force my mother and sister to do so.
So, yes, there is such a thing as a conservative Baptist who pracitces what the Bible says regarding modesty. You are (figuratively) looking at a whole bunch of them, on this forum!
As to finding a church, I'm afraid I'm not of any use. I frankly have no idea. I guess, just keep looking and praying.
God bless, from Rachel.
