These are the same Presbyterians who approve of homosexuality and female ministers. In order to justify their sin, they're trying to rewrite the Gospel. Thankfully the hymn writers stood up for Truth and refused.

Bringle writes that most committee members didn't want the new Presbyterian hymnal to suggest that Jesus' death on the cross was an atoning sacrifice that was needed "to assuage God's anger" over sin.
I would like them to explain then please what Christ's death was about then ? People just refuse to accept that they are Isaiah 64:6
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Romans 1:18-32
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
I must agree with my God, that they are foolish thinking that just because they "change the words" that somehow they change God. Do they not know the laws of Monarchy, once a King makes a decree and it is written it can never never ever be changed, who is God, his son Jesus, the Holy Spirit, our Triune God, but the King of All Kings, Lord of All Lords, whose most perfect Laws are for everlasting to everlasting, whose wrath is Just and Pure, but who has immeasurable mercy and with his boundless mercy chose to pour his wrath out on his only begotten Son Jesus Christ in order to give those who are willing a chance to repent, those who come with a broken contrite heart, in true repentance acknowledging and owning their own sin, accepting the punishment as deserved and just, then God in his infinite mercy, counts the cost paid by Jesus Christ , so we can then be made right with him. Then we can have the most Holy relationship, the relationship that was severed so long ago, by the choice of sin, there in the Garden. Praise our most Awesome God, who chose to pursue the lost, even at the expense of spilling innocent blood, the blood of Jesus Christ. Nothing but the Blood can make me whole, nothing but the blood can wash me white as snow.....

I recommend the book, 'The Cross of Christ,' by John R.W. Stott. It is the best work on the cross I've ever read. In it he deals with satisfaction. Most people don't like to think that God's holiness and justice had to be satisfied. This is the teaching behind our (KJV) bible eord, propitiation.
