'Bible Stick' donations to troops hits historic milestone Bill Bumpas (OneNewsNow.com) Monday, March 02, 2015
A military outreach program recently reached a milestone.
The organization Faith Comes By Hearing has been getting BibleSticks - small, digital audio Bibles - to men and women in uniform since 2008.
Faith spokesman Bill Lohr says the organization just reached a landmark point in the distribution.
"Just close to seven years later," he says, "we're at 500,000 military BibleSticks that have been deployed through our chaplaincy corps through our troops."
The ministry is able to provide the BibleSticks free of charge to chaplains as a result of generous individual donors, and the collective giving of over 8,000 U.S. churches, many of them repeatedly helping each year.
On its website, Faith Comes describes a cowboy church in Texas that has purchased more than 850 BibleSticks for men and women in the armed forces.
Faith Comes is not stopping at a half-million, since there is about a 15-percent turnover rate each year in the armed forces.
