I have just read a few posts, and WOW is there some good, practical information here! To introduce myself, my family and I are Independent Baptist missionaries in Guatemala. There are several groups of Mennonites in this country, and we have recently become more acquainted with some of them. My husband and I started to wonder about the headcovering thing, and started to search the Scriptures and pray about it. After a few months of uncertainty, we finally decided I needed to cover my head. We are doctrinally different from many groups who cover, and so are trying to be careful not to look like them for testimony's sake. (I appreciate all the ideas I am getting here!) I will not be able to post very often, because we do not have internet in our home. But I will check in hopefully once a week, when I am able to get out.

Welcome aboard, sister Tammy,
Next time you sign on please share a little with us about the country of Guatemala. There is a section on missions above. Perhaps Bro. Daniel will give us his testimony concerning his burden for Guatamala and how we can best pray for your family and the work there. Again, welcome. I hope we can be a blessing and an encouragment to you and Bro. Daniel.
Bro. Ben

I guess I could have been more descriptive, huh? ;D We live in the highlands of Guatemala, and it is quite cool here. It is nice, because the traditional dress of the natives here is modest because of the climate - just an extra perk The majority of the people are catholic, but catholicism here mixes quite easily with Mayan traditions and demonism. (It is the "universal church," after all.) There is also a huge charismatic movement that has led many people astray. Two of our five children were born in our home here. The other three are Texas-born. My husband was excited to hear about the group here, and he would like to know more about Baptists and Anabaptists in history who covered, as well as WHY they stopped. Any web sites out there about this in particular? We have been here for almost four years, and are going to return to the States for a furlough in November this year. I am half excited, half nervous about going back. I have not told any family or friends about our decision to cover, and I am sure that most will be bewildered. For me, their questions will not be a problem at all - we know why we made this decision. The hard thing will be those who draw their own conclusions and never let us show them what we know.

God bless you for your work and welcome to one of the nicest message boards on the Internet!
My two cousins, ages 5 and 2, are from Guatamala! Their parents adopted them and brought them here. Unfortunately their parents aren't Christians but I hope and pray they will be some day and that their children will be too!

Thank you,

Sister Amy, We actually visited the Capitol City BC during our deputation in 2002. What a wonderful church - they made a huge impression on us. We are still praying for them. We are from East Texas, Palestine to be exact. But my folks are in the Dallas area. Tammy

Sister Tammy,
We joined Capitol City BC in 2003. It is indeed a wonderful church. We haven't seen any like it yet. We miss them a lot.
Our friends George and Dawn Gwin just moved to Palastine, TX. We worked with them at Buckner Children's Home in Midland, TX they were our relief house parents. Gwins are a wonderful couple. What church do you go to maybe I can reccomend them your church? They are Fundamental Baptist too.
Thank you,
May the Lord bless you,
Amy

Our church in Palestine is Calvary Baptist Church, pastor is Butch Lockard. It is IFB. The church in located on the south part of the loop 256, west of the Wal-mart, situated on a hill. I think the phone number is 729-5924, but I am not sure about that. I know Pastor Lockard would be happy to visit them, if he had their address! Tammy
