Good evening,
My name is Valli and I am a new member of your group. Thank you for including me. My husband and I are, of all things, over-the-road truck drivers and yes, I wear very modest dresses, aprons and prayer coverings as we traverse the United States. I feel that I am helping him to spread the Word, albeit it silently, that there is a better way to live and that there is hope for us all through our Heavenly Father's Son, Jesus. We will both be 51 years old this summer and our children are all grown and living wonderful lives. We have 6 grandchildren. We love the land and small farming, gardening, etc.. We have a lovely home on 6 acres that's part of a larger parcel that was Gary's parents farm. Now there are 5 of us, in his family, that have homes on the land. It's a nice place. Thank thee oh Lord.
My husband, Gary, and I are Conservative Quakers from Ohio. There are no Conservative Quaker Meetings close to our area, so I have resisted becoming a Member of any Meeting outright because of it. I was raised in a Freewill Baptist Church but never found life there. I went blindly throughout life with only my own selfish "needs" in mind.
I have been a believing Christian for about 11 years now. I had come to the end of myself and realized that I had pulled down my own house upon my own head. In my great despair, I called out to God. And in His great mercy, He heard and answered me. There were no fancy sermons, sad songs, or urging from another group of folks, just a one-on-one encounter with my Father. Nothing has ever been the same again.
From the beginning of this journey God focused me on modesty and, soon afterward, on the prayer covering. He has sent me in many directions over a long period of time to find the items that I now wear with a clear conscience that He is finally pleased with the outcome, though I am always ready to change it should He show me my error.
Like all of you, I have been through the same challenges that crosses our paths whenever you reach outside the "norm" to the more perfect path that God presents to us all. That understanding, in itself, took some time to get through to me. There is a path that seemeth right to man but leads to destruction and then there's another path, the Perfect Path. That's where the real dragons lie. All that I must defeat in me lies in each turn and most of the time, there is little light to see by. I suppose that's where "walking by Faith" comes in and learning, carefully, to listen to that "still, small voice" becomes so vital to hear. But each of us must face the challenges, one by one, alone, with only the help of God's Spirit and the weapons that we collect along the way. And as we do, the Light gets brighter and we start to see the reasons that God has set up this Way for us. All Glory to His Name. Yes, I believe that Glory is but one of the true reasons for our experiences...for He will not share Glory with anything or anyone for any reason. Thus, "all glory must be covered". And He, alone, decides what the covering will be. And it's our desire to seek out His will and to follow Him wherever it may lead.
Atonement MEANS "covering". And the modest clothing we wear and the prayer covering that each woman must personally decide to put on, I believe, are all legal atonements...though I must admit, on the surface looks like foolishness, especially to outsiders and to the newest believers. But God will woo us and continue to love us into His Kindgom even with all our shortcomings. How lovely He is! How wonderful are His ways!
Well, with this said, I so look forward to getting to know each of you. May each of thee find Peace and Understanding in this late hour.
Blessings to Thee and Thine,
Valli
