Dear Brethren,
My Nana is 85 years old and lives alone in Alabama. She has a small apt, she cooks for herself, she goes shopping and gets her hair done on Fridays. She takes her laundry to the laundry mat etc.
Up until now she has done pretty good.
She fell and was not found for two (12 days)! She crawled around (scooted around) because she could not get up. She ate and drank what she could get her hands on. ( a box of cereal and a big jug of cranberry juice. She went to the bathroom in an ice bucket she had saved from a hotel.
On a Tuesday 2 weeks ago The electricians came to her apt and cut off the electric so they could change the plugs. These two men spent the day there with the electric off. They left and did not cut it back on. She said it was cooler inside than outside. She said it was so hot she was melting. She could not take it anymore by Friday so she tried to walk to the Apt. office, she told them that the electricians did not turn her air conditioner back on when they left. She made it back to the apt and opened the door went in and blacked out! She woke up on the floor, she stayed on the floor until they found her 12 days later.
They put her in the hospital 2 days ago. I got a call yesterday from the Social Services because they stepped in to find out if she had relatives that cared and would take over. We do care. This is so sad that she was alone, and down unable to get up for 12 days!
My mother lives in Fla. and is trying to make arrangements to go to Alabama and pick her and her furniture up. Mama is poor and is sickly too. Please pray for her and us. It ;looks like we might have to dip into our house money again to go and help. Before the gas prices went up ( before Katrina) it costs us 300.00 for gas round trip. A hotel is 65.00 and then there is food. We would have to stay a few days maybe 3 nights. Wow! I hope they have not raised the hotel fees.
If we do not step in the government will put her in a Nursing home and take all her earthly belongings and leave her there to die alone , far from loved ones. If they take over we will loose all rights to her and her well being.
Please keep us all in prayer that God will guide our footsteps and provide every step of the way.
Please pray that my grandmother will accept her fate to go live with my mama. She does not and says she will not live with my mama because she is living with her boyfriend for the past 25 years and will not get married. ( living in sin) She wont have it! Little does she know she will be living there with them from now on...so sad. It breaks my heart. She thinks she will leave the hospital go to a nursing home for rehabilitation and then resume her normal life back in her own little apt.
I cried all night, I made myself sick. Bro Ben was beside himself worrying about me. I feel a little better today but my heart still is grieving for my poor Nana.
I so wanted her last years to be pleasant ones. Where she would die peacefully. She loved and cared for me when no one else would help care for me. My mother had a rocky life and I was right in the middle ( a burden to say the least) Mama has changed alot in the last 6 years.
My Nana has had a hard life herself but she has had alot of dear friends over the years. I wanted her ending days to be good ones filled with happy thoughts and smiles and tender loving care.
Please pray and pray for this situation. My Nana, and my poor mama, and me.
Love, ~ sister Darlene ~
