Hello, brothers and sisters!
I realize that right below me is a thread on music. I decided to create a new one because I have a slightly different question. My intended absolutely loves music. He is almost constantly listening to music, unless we're together or he's at work, or something of the like. He's in the process of weeding out the bad in his life, and one of the things that has been bothering both him and I is instrumental music.
What are Bible guidelines on Christian instrumental music? Everything he and I have found references music with lyrics (specifically, CCM). How do we know what is good instrumental music and what is bad? How would we know if classical music, or jazz music, or techno music is bad or good? Please give us any information you can. This is a major sticking point with him and is troubling both of us.
Thanks, and love in Christ,
Sarah

Sarah, I do not know if this will be of much use, but music was a struggle at first for my self, my husband seemed to have an almost instant discernment for right and wrong after he was saved. The Bible says songs and hymns, and spiritual songs. You probably already know this but even with Christian songs people often go with what the flesh wants. Does it make you excited spiritually or fleshly, I listened to contemporary music when i first got saved because it excited me that i could move my body to a beat and it had some words that they labeled it christian. that was wrong of me,
ask yourself if this music prepares you for worshipping the Lord. Would you sing it in His presence? Would you be ashamed at the feelings you have when you hear it? are they false? if it doesn't have words to it then could it be mistaken for something else? what about the people who make the music? sometimes my husband will check to see the appearance and church background of the performers. The devil can and does use music, remember satan had a built in set of pipes. There are beats of music that you may hear, like at a gas station that you may not ever buy, but they seem to stick with you afterwards; if you will have children in the home keep this in mind... There is also that old saying "if in doubt, throw it out."
