I wanted to share some information with folks here about the dangers of ingesting soy products. I know that soy is the newest food trend but trends are generally about money makers in the long run. I am a Natural Practitioner, working towards certification and licensing (really tough to do here in Colorado!). In my studies I have learned to avoid soy and feel I should at least give others the option to understand the dangers of soy and choose for themselves what they will do with that information. If you are interested in exploring this further the best place to start is The Weston A. Price Foundation. You can "google" that name and go to their site, once there "search"....dangers of soy. Read the info, I think you will find it very helpful. This is a very hushed topic because believe me soy is BIG BUSINESS. So take a moment or two to study it out, I think you will be glad you did. I was wondering if any of you have a Quiche recipe that you would be willing to share with me? Our local Mimi's restaurant serve Broccoli/Cheese Quiche that is so delicious, and I was hoping to serve Quiche at home. It looks like it might be easy...any tips or advice? Thanks, Sister Pamela

I thought I'd share this cleaner that I have used with great satisfaction for 22 years now. I found it in an Amish pamphlet. It is easy to make and inexpensive too. Amish Cleaner 1 cup sudsy ammonia 1/2 cup vinegar 1/4 cup baking soda Add these 3 ingredients to 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Stir. Grad a cloth or mop and start cleaning! Works on everything I've found. I have even used it in my rug shampooer. Happy Cleaning! Sister Pam

Welcome Sister Carmen! I am glad to meet you. I too am a pastor's wife, and the only "covered" lady in our church, and yes it does cause problems! It seems like we ladies could remove much more clothing and be quite fine and accepted, but let us cover as God instructs and we are labeled legalists and wacky to say the very least. We are an old fashioned, King James Bible, soulwinning, Christ-centered, independent, and fundamental baptist church. I sometimes cringe when I add the "fundamental" part, not that I do not strongly believe fundamentally, but because of the harm some fundamental baptist have done to our name and stand. So just know I am not one of the "sheep abusers"! That said....WELCOME, and I know you will enjoy this place. It is nice to fellowship with others who believe as we do. Blessings and Prayers, Sister Pamela Johanna

Sister Nancy, I'm praying for you dear, just finished writing your name and surgery date down inside my prayer journal. Thank the Lord for the priviledge of prayer, what comfort it brings to those prayed for and those that are honored to pray for a friend. Please keep us posted. Sister Darlene what a beautiful photo! Your family is precious. And so many daughters! I have only 3 sons,( and had always hoped for daughters, but the Lord had other plans) so I was impressed to see your girls. But the Lord is good and has given me 3 "daughters-in-love" who are good wives to my sons and good mamas to my grandchildren. I also am blessed to have 6 granddaughters so far.I know your girls are a wonderful help to their mama. What a blessing to see them all dressed in what I call proper clothing...you know modest and lovely! And all "covered" with a veil. Darlene, I think your veils look very nice, mind if I ask where you get those coverings?! Do you make them? I would like to get some like yours. Hope you will keep adding photos, I wish everyone on this site could add photos, I will try someday to figure out how to get photos from my camera to here. I should've been born in the 1700's, I would've fared much better. Technology sees me coming and starts laughing.! Hope you and your family have a day blessed by God. I'm praying for you all. I gotta get out of here and garden! ;D Sister Pam (Johanna)

Help! I am looking for a pattern for a sunbonnet, you know the old fashioned kind. Generally made of calico with a wide brim. I guess the best way to describe it is like "Little House on the Prairie". I live in Colorado and we are at an elevation of 7,000+ ft, that makes us closer to the sun and the sun is brutal on skin and eyes. Sunglasses take care of the eyes, but I'm 58 years old and I think I've endured enough sunburns! I love to garden so I'm out in the sun as often as possible. Anyway if any of you have found a good source online for free patterns to sew sunbonnets and would let me know I would be ever so grateful.! Thanks and I'm praying for you all, hope you will pray for me too. Blessings, Sister Pam (Johanna)

Sister Darlene, just wanted to tell you I've been praying for your mother and for you as well ever since I first read your prayer request. I know these are difficult days for you especially. I too was an only child and when my mother became sick and her a great distance away also it weighed so heavy on my heart. Isn't it sad that "only" children carry such a sense of respondsibility to the overseeing of their parents? My friends that have siblings don't seem to carry that burden, it is just a shared problem and more easily fixed. Just another reason God intended us to have large families.! I ended up having to talk my mom into moving away from her beloved Tenn. and move all the way out west to Colorado. She passed away 6 months after moving here, but she was truely sick with emphysema. Anyway I've said all that to say this, I understand how your heart aches and I am praying fervently for you. God bless, Sister Pam (Johanna)

Dear Sister Darlene, Just wanted to take a moment here and tell you what a beautiful family you have. I loved seeing your photos, I was just reading a few of the topics and stumbled on "Ben Smith Family Photos", so how nice to have a picture in my mind as I pray for you all and read your postings. Thanks! Hope you are feeling well in your new pregnancy, don't forget to rest! I know that is hard in the summer with everything there is to do in country life. My folks used to live in Dickson, TN. Both are gone to Heaven now, but I used to look forward to our trips home to TN. Praying for you, Sister Johanna

The Burrells are such a great family! I have visited their site for over a year now, they have so many great tips all through the site. Lots of tips on cooking, homekeeping, farmsteading, you name it...it's there. I've never met them of course, but they seem like wonderful folks, and I sure appreciate them taking the time to share their lives.

I'm so glad to hear you enjoy sewing! I have taught sewing classes for years and have found that a lot of ladies want to learn to sew but never get the passion and it becomes a chore to them. I wish I could teach the "passion" part of it as well! I don't teach sewing much anymore. Being a pastor's wife and church secretary takes up most of my free time. I get sewing "fever" though sometimes and just have to take time to sew a little. Right now I am making some skirts for one of my granddaughters. I think starting out with a very simple skirt is the best way to start learning and getting confidence. Most ladies are small enough to fit into "1Yard" skirts. You take 1 yard of 36", 42" or even 60" material that is as long as you'd like plus 3" for the waist band and hem. Sew the one seam down the back, turn under 2" for the waistband and sew that down leaving 1" open to fish the elastic through. Cut a piece of 1"elastic that is your waist measurement plus 1" to overlap. Slide that through the waistband, overlap it, stitch it together. Finish sewing the opening in the waist band and hem the bottom. Viola! You have a new skirt. Works for any size lady or girl. You can also buy excellent instruction books used to teach in home economics classes at GVS. Call 1-800-398-2494 and they will gladly send you their catalog for free. Trust me...every home needs one of their catalogs. Hope this helps some one out there. Sewing til Jesus comes Johanna
